Description
Eucalyptus bancroftii is a tree growing to 15m, although usually is much smaller. The bark sheds in large plates or flakes and is smooth or granular, similar to that of grey gums. Newly exposed bark is bright orange and weathers to grey, dark grey or grey-brown. The juvenile leaves are ovate and dull green in colour. Adult leaves are green, dull, thick, lance-shaped to broadly lance-shaped and 8-20cm long by 1.5-4cm wide. Leaves are arranged in separate groups off the branchlets.
The buds are cylindrical or conical, 10-15mm long and 4-6mm in diameter. The flowers are white and the seed capsules are hemispherical or conical, 7-9mm long by 8-9mm wide and have 3-4 valves projecting from the opening. (Brooker & Kleinig 1994; Stanley & Ross 2002; Hill 2008)
Distribution
Eucalyptus bancroftii is found from Southport to Maryborough and Woodgate National Park in south-east Queensland. It is also found north of Port Macquarie in coastal New South Wales. (Herbrecs 2008; Hill 2008)
