| Fire management guidelines | SEASON: Summer to winter. INTENSITY: Low to moderate. INTERVAL: 20-50 years. INTERVAL_MIN: 20. INTERVAL_MAX: 50. STRATEGY: Burn in association with surrounding vegetation. Protection relies on the broad-scale management of surrounding country. Fire exclusion and buffering from fire are not necessary. ISSUES: Some rare and threatened plants (e.g., Kunzea flavescens) require long intervals between fires. There will be a number of obligate seeding species in this community so variability in regime is required. Any planned burning should be conducted in association with plans for surrounding vegetation. |
| Comments | 12.12.10: Higher altitude heaths exhibit a high level of species endemism. Often too small to map at 1:100 000 scale. Subject to over burning (frequent fire favours fire-tolerant species at the expense of fire-sensitive species) and habitat sometimes favoured for telecommunication towers and other mountain top infrastructure. |
